Why did you come to Môn CF?
I was referred to Môn CF by Coleg Menai – they told me that this was the best place to come to find work. I was interested in either sports or construction, but to be honest I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do. Môn CF set me up with an Employment Support Mentor who helped me explore my options.
Did you do any training?
Yes. My Mentor told me about the CSCS training package Môn CF have on offer where I could gain the IOSH Working Safely qualification, sit the CITB Health, Safety & Environment test and get a CSCS card. This seemed like a good opportunity, and I started looking at the construction industry as a real possibility for me.
Did you do any volunteering or work experience?
Yes. My Mentor arranged a two-week work experience placement for me with a construction company in Conwy. Môn CF were able to sort out all of my personal protective equipment (PPE), and they helped me with travel arrangements and expenses. My Mentor helped me make a CV, plus I got a great reference from my placement, both of which came in really useful when I was applying for jobs.
What are you doing now?
I’m now doing my Level 3 Apprenticeship in Joinery & Plastering with Ombler Williams, attending Coleg Menai in Llangefni one day a week. I’m enjoying it and I’m very happy there.
What do you think is the best thing about Môn CF?
I can’t say a bad thing about Môn CF – they supported me so much and I always felt that they were happy to help me.
