Why did you come to Môn CF?
I first went to see Môn CF in September 2016 after seeing the Journey to Work driving programme advertised, and then found out about their Employment Support programmes. I had spent the past few years looking after my son and daughter who are now in full-time education, so I wanted to see what training was available to help me get back into employment.
Did you do any training?
Yes, as part of the Journey to Work programme I attended courses on basic car maintenance and the true costs of owning a car. I passed my theory test and also received practical driving lessons. Unfortunately, I didn’t pass my test, but I’m determined to have another go. I completed all of Môn CF’s “fundamental” training, including First Aid, Health & Safety, Manual Handling and Fire Safety. I also attended sessions on Confidence Building and Interview Skills which really helped me through the process of applying for jobs.
Did you do any volunteering or work experience?
I didn’t do any volunteering, but with the help of Môn CF I gained the confidence and skills to apply for jobs. Last summer I was employed on a short-term contract as a Customer Assistant in Tesco, Holyhead. I really enjoyed being back in work, and even though I wasn’t offered a longer contract, it gave me the incentive to keep looking for another job.
What are you doing now?
I’m currently working in the Standing Stones pub/restaurant in Holyhead. I started at the beginning of May this year after plucking up the courage to go there with my CV and ask if they had any vacancies available.
What do you think is the best thing about Môn CF?
I think the best thing about Môn CF is the staff and how helpful and supportive they have been throughout my time working with them. I also enjoyed all the courses I was able to do.
