Paul WilkinsonWhy did you come to Môn CF?

When I first came to Môn CF I had just been made redundant so I needed help to make a CV. I’d heard that Môn CF help people with courses and finding work so I wanted to see what opportunities they could offer me.

Did you do any training?

Yes, I got twelve certificates through Môn CF which I’m really proud of: Site Safety Plus Certificate • HABC Level 2 Award for Working as a Door Supervisor within the Private Security Industry • Agored Cymru Entry Level 3 / Level 1 Confidence Building & Interview Skills • CIEH Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering • CIEH Level 2 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work • CIEH Level 2 Award in Principles of Manual Handling • CIEH Level 2 Award in Health & Safety in the Workplace • CIEH Level 2 Award in Principles of Risk Assessment • CIEH Level 1 Award in Fire Safety Awareness • LANTRA Award in Trimmers and Grass Cutting • Agored Cymru Level 1 Literacy & Numeracy • Agored Cymru Level 1 Plant Propagation.

Did you do any volunteering or work experience?

Yes, I volunteered three to four days a week at Môn CF’s Training Academy, cutting grass at different sites across Anglesey. The staff there trained me to use all of the machines and equipment safely, and I gained LANTRA qualifications which are recognised by employers. Over time I became responsible for checking equipment at the beginning and end of each day to make sure everything was clean, in working order, and stored in the correct place ready for the next day. I took great pride in this.

What are you doing now?

Môn CF supported me to find a job as a Grounds Maintenance Operative in Silver Bay Holiday Village, Rhoscolyn, which includes cutting grass, strimming, and looking after the private beach. I love it there! They also helped me to get my SIA licence, which has led to Silver Bay offering me security work in the evenings. My employer has also offered to help me get a moped so I can travel to and from work more easily.

What do you think is the best thing about Môn CF?

Môn CF gave me the focus and incentive to knuckle down, gain qualifications and find employment.
