Gareth GriffithsWhy did you come to Môn CF?

I’d been out of work for a while when a friend suggested Môn CF could help me. I knew they did courses so I thought it’d be a good way to improve my CV. I went to the office, filled in an enquiry form and met with a mentor who told me what was on offer.

Did you do any training?

Yes. I already had experience of environmental and security work, but I didn’t have the qualifications to prove my skills. Môn CF were running the HABC Level 2 Award for Working as a Door Supervisor within the Private Security Industry course, which was exactly what I needed to be able to get an SIA licence. My mentor booked me onto the four day course, which I passed, and Môn CF helped me every step of the way towards getting my licence. Around the same time, I heard about a job going with GMS in Holyhead as a Grounds Maintenance Operative. I went there with my CV and they were impressed with my experience but thought I’d benefit from getting some grass-cutting tickets. My mentor booked me onto a three day course up at Môn CF’s Training Academy where I gained Lantra qualifications in using trimmers, pedestrian mowers and ride-on mowers.

Did you do any volunteering or work experience?

I did a week’s work trial with GMS so I could put my training into practice and show them I was the right person for the job.

What are you doing now?

I’ve been working full-time for GMS since March 2017 and I love it. Môn CF also put me in touch with Streamline Leisure who were responsible for the security at the National Eisteddfod in Bodedern. I did a few evening and weekend shifts with them, and I hope to pick up extra shifts again in the future.

What do you think is the best thing about Môn CF?

Everyone is so friendly, and everything I did with them was free of charge.
