Jordan Rees BrownWhy did you come to Môn CF?

I’d just graduated from Durham University with a BA in Criminology, but had no idea what my next step should be. I came to Môn CF for support with finding out what options and opportunities were available to me. I’d always enjoyed outdoor activities, and had some relevant work experience because I’d done a Sport & Public Services course in college. With the encouragement of my mentor, I started to believe that this could be a realistic career path for me.

Did you do any training?

Yes, I did a few general courses which would be great for any job – First Aid, Health & Safety, Fire Safety and Manual Handling. My mentor at Môn CF told me about a vacancy with a local residential activities centre, Anglesey Outdoors, which sounded ideal. The only disadvantage was that I didn’t have the qualifications they were looking for. Môn CF funded a Swiftwater and Flood Rescue Technician (SRT) course for me which I really enjoyed, and which gave me a good chance of getting a job in the outdoor activities sector.

Did you do any volunteering or work experience?

No, I already had the work experience I needed through college.

What are you doing now?

I went for an interview with Anglesey Outdoors and was offered the post of Assistant Instructor. I loved the place straight away so couldn’t wait to accept, and now I’m really enjoying the job.

What do you think is the best thing about Môn CF?

The best thing about Môn CF is that they help you build your confidence and personal development as well as giving you opportunities you may not have had otherwise.
