In November 2016 Graeme attended a short presentation about the training and work experience opportunities available through Môn CF. He was very interested in attending our Emergency First Aid at Work course, and so was assigned a mentor and booked onto it. Graeme was offered a range of other courses at this point which he declined because he wanted to focus on the First Aid course.
Graeme attended the course and passed both the theory quiz and the practical assessment. He enjoyed the course so much and was so thrilled to have passed that he asked to be booked onto all three of the other ‘fundamental’ courses on offer, namely Health and Safety in the Workplace, Manual Handling and Fire Safety. Graeme went on to pass every one of these courses and was presented with a portfolio displaying all four of his certificates.
Graeme and his mentor discussed his next step. She suggested that he might enjoy and benefit from volunteering either within Môn CF or elsewhere. Graeme was unsure, so his mentor arranged for him to attend one of the regular tours of Môn CF where available opportunities are showcased. Graeme found the tour useful and showed an interest in the Joinery section of the Training Academy, but there was still something holding him back.
Graeme and his mentor agreed that a Confidence Building course might help him to make a decision. He completed a three-session course accredited by Agored Cymru, covering confidence building and interview skills, and the result of this course was that Graeme requested a place on the next Academy Volunteer Induction. He attended his induction in March 2017, and we here at Môn CF are very much looking forward to supporting him during the next stage of his journey.
