Joseph initially came to Môn CF in 2014 looking to volunteer some of his time in Môn CF’s Training Academy. He had an academic background in Mechanics and identified that he would like a job which involved cars, but he was open to various roles in different industries. Joseph developed an action plan with his Mentor, Gary Williams, and together they made a CV to assist him in applying for jobs. Joseph started volunteering 7.5 hours per week at Môn CF’s Training Academy as part of the Environmental Team. He also completed free courses to develop new skills and to add to his CV. Joseph was successful in an application made to Tesco in March 2015, and worked on a temporary contract for a few weeks. Following this, he went to Scotland to work on fishing boats. After a few months fishing, Joseph decided to come back to Holyhead to work and again approached Môn CF for support. Joseph picked up where he left off and continued to volunteer in Môn CF’s Training Academy, where he completed LANTRA awards in Horticultural Skills, including strimming and ride-on mowing. During weekly appointments, he and his new Mentor, Georgia Chapman, would work together to look for employment in industries which he was passionate about. Local tyre-fitting companies were approached on his behalf to try and secure him a work placement opportunity within the automotive industry. Together Joseph and Georgia sought opportunities for apprenticeships and applied to openings in companies such as Suzuki. In the meantime, Rhys Roberts – Môn CF’s Employer Engagement Officer – approached Holyhead Golf Club to source a Jobs Growth Wales opportunity. Holyhead Golf Club were in turn successful in their application for a six month Jobs Growth Wales Vacancy for a Groundskeeper. Having completed his LANTRA awards through Môn CF, Joseph applied for this vacancy and volunteered his spare time to work at the Golf Club on a work placement. He was interviewed amongst other applicants and was successful in gaining the position of Groundskeeper in May 2016. Six months later, when the Jobs Growth Wales contract ceased, Joseph was offered a permanent full-time job as a Groundskeeper. Joseph has also taken on other duties as part of this contract and is now the in-house mechanic. Joseph is very happy and enjoying his job at Holyhead Golf Club.
