construction worker 1024x682

Ian came to Môn Communities First after being referred by the Job Centre in Amlwch. He had been out of work for the last nine years. He was shy when he first came to us but as he attended the meetings his confidence grew.

Ian’s employment history consisted of bar work, retail, and warehouse work. During the meetings, Ian stated that he wanted a career in the construction sector but didn’t feel he could as he didn’t have any relevant experience. Working with his Employment Support Mentor, Menna, an action plan was devised.

Ian successfully completed numerous CIEH accredited courses Môn CF had to offer to enhance his CV and went on a Confidence Building course. Another opportunity on offer was the Driving Theory lessons and Ian jumped at the chance. These are weekly courses that are run by Môn CF staff and offer guidance and support for clients who are hoping to pass their Driving Test in the future. He was one of our first clients at Amlwch and the course there is growing. This course is brilliant for Ian because of his location, it is vital for him to drive.

I explained to Ian that we could support him to gain some experience in the construction sector as we could offer him work placement with a local company. Môn CF recently won an ILM Award for Active Inclusion clients who are aged 18-24 year olds and 25 years old and over.

To start, we offered Ian a work placement trial for a week with B. C. Services at Holyhead. Ian thoroughly enjoyed the week and the Company’s Director was impressed with Ian’s work ethic. As a result, Môn CF has employed Ian to work 25 hours over a period of 26 weeks with B. C. Services.

Ian Carter says ‘Môn CF have been nothing but brilliant and have done more for me in the last 2-3 months than any other agency has’.

Môn CF will continue to support Ian with his driving and we wish him all the luck for the future!
